There’s a ditch in front of my house. Despite being surrounded by stubborn city blocks and asphalt roads, the vegetation flourishes without maintenance or care. It’s a daily reminder to me of the resilience and healing power of nature, a symbol of hope that all is not lost.
This photograph explores the concept of refugia, an area in which a population of organisms can survive through a period of unfavourable conditions. If we give the natural world more space to breathe, it will surprise us and bloom in ways we never thought possible.
