My interests are often nature-based, due to my upbringing in Northern Ontario at the top of Lake Superior, hence a strong representation of the wind, the earth, the water and fire in my photographs. The imagery is about the past, the present and the future of the natural world captured with reverence. I have a magnetic attraction for the elemental world with respect for strong design. Add to this my training for the image using the control and respect of camera techniques. I enjoy the use of composition strategies, accentuating the use of texture, tone, placement of subject and the use of colour to tell a visual story. The camera offers an opportunity for us to record at a level of complexity never experienced in our culture before. Yet I still believe that a contemporary print is the ultimate medium for the image.
We resonate with the world we live in, our geography, our sky, the wind, the trees, its shapes, lines and energies. The balance of nature helps us to return to a state of peace and harmony. The artwork endeavors to craft imagery to lead us back to this state. I have been a practicing professional photographer for over 25 years in the Muskoka region of Ontario and presently an instructor of photography at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario.
“Radiate”
The interpretation of the ideal scene, over a span of time, fascinates my imagination. It has inspired me to create images in capture using elongated exposures to see what is truly present.
