Mount Damavand, the legendary crown of the Alborz range and a pillar of Persian myth, rises beneath a river of starlight, its snow-capped summit echoing stories of freedom and resilience. For generations, this mountain has guided poets, pilgrims, and wanderers toward the heavens. In this photograph, Damavand still stands sentinel, but the heavens themselves are entering a fragile new era.
Above the Milky Way, the accelerating launch of low-orbit satellites an emerging environmental concern adds a faint, growing glow that threatens to outshine the constellations. At the same time, the halo of urban light climbs ever higher on the horizon, erasing stars once familiar to every child.
When the sky dims, we lose more than beauty. We surrender a shared inheritance, the myths whispered by fireside stargazers, the navigation of desert caravans, the spark that led our ancestors to chart the planets and, ultimately, to reach for them.
This image is both celebration and caution. It calls on us to safeguard the night by protecting dark-sky sanctuaries, embracing mindful lighting, and crafting responsible space regulations, so future generations may stand beneath the cosmos, look upward, and feel the same unbroken wonder that has guided humanity for millennia.
