Matthew Wiley’s foray into Photography began in 1973 when he was gifted a 35mm SLR Camera, by a generous girlfriend, and it wasn’t long before he fell in love with Photography. She married a Doctor.

Matthew honed his craft and quickly opened his own photo studio in the late 1970s. He chose a spot in Toronto’s dynamic photo district, which was the right place to be creative and driven.

One of his early clients was A&M Records who brought assignments to photograph The Police, Supertramp, Styx and other important classic rock artists.

Wiley’s passion of pursuit was Fashion Photography, inspired by artists like Avedon, Guy Bourdin, and Helmut Newton. Matthew’s reputation grew and so did his client list. Matthew’s images were seen regularly in publications like Flare, Chatelaine, Canadian Living, Maclean’s, Homemakers, Magazine, Ski Canada, and Toronto Life Magazine.

His photographs of Canadian icons such as Gordon Lightfoot, Margaret Atwood, Anne Murray, David Wilcox, The Good Brothers and Kim Mitchell are original and distinct.

Advertising work for a who’s who roster of Canadian fashion, lifestyle and retail followed with assignments and campaigns for Alfred Sung, Bretton’s, Bell, BMO, Columbia Jewelers, Mappin’s, Corona, Cover Girl, Noxzema, Daniel Hechter, Eaton’s, Kettle Creek, Marks & Spencer, Molson Breweries, Johnnie Walker, Ports, RBC, Sea Queen, Sears, Simpson’s, Sony, Sporting Life, Studio 267, The Bay, Toshiba, and Yorkdale.
