Kat Catchpole is a queer, Toronto-based artist/documentary and portrait photographer, whose work focuses on queer identity and self-representation, as well as elements of performance and performativity, which are fundamental to the history of queer photography.

Catchpole’s work combines elements of documentary and theatricality, to produce portraits that blur the distinction between the visible, perceivable aspects of identity, and the more inner, hidden aspects of one’s being.

Catchpole has an undergraduate degree in Cultural Studies and Gender & Social Justice Studies from Trent University, and a diploma of Photography from Centennial College. Since the beginning of 2024, Kat has been documenting Toronto’s queer skateboarding community, and has more recently been working on a series of portraits about Toronto’s queer artists.
