Just before I graduated from University I picked up a book on Photography and thought “this is much more interesting and exciting than the classes I’ve been attending!” After shooting anything and everything for myself I signed up for the two-year course in Photography at the Banff School of Fine Arts (now called the Banff Centre For Arts and Creativity.) This turned out to be a life changing experience! I learned the photographic basics in a gorgeous part of the country. After I returned to Toronto, I worked at several commercial studios and then set up my own studio. I enjoyed my career as a commercial photographer and the people I worked with. However, after I retired and closed my studio I thought “Now I can shoot exactly what I want!” The landscapes in Algonquin Park came to mind immediately. I used to go to summer camp there as a kid and loved going on two- week canoe trips throughout the Park. The raw beauty I experienced made a lifelong impression on me. So, I went there and started shooting. I loved walking the trails and photographing the unique Algonquin landscape. I also noticed the beautiful reflections of the landscapes on the water and realized this was a unique way to see their beauty. Some reflections were total abstracts, others reminded me of Impressionist paintings. Now I was really hooked. To me, beauty in nature is everywhere, you just have to look for it, sometimes in unconventional places. Now photographing it has become my passion!
